The Rescuer's Creed
I promise I will take your unwanted animals.
I will heal their wounds, their diseases, their broken bones.
I will give them the medical attention they need and deserve.
I will nurture their starvation and give them a warm place to sleep.
I will spay and neuter them, vaccinate them against the diseases that can harm them.
I will treat them and honor them.
I will buy them toys, blankets, balls, and teach them to play,
I will speak softly to them.
I will try to teach them not to fear, not to cry, and not to hate.
I will whisper sweet, kind, gentle words into their ears, while genly trying to stroke their fear, their pain, and their scars away.
I will face their emotional scars and give them time to overcome them.
I will socialize them, potty train them, teach them to be obedient, show them dignity, and hold their paws, and stroke their ears if they have endured too much.
and walk them over the Rainbow Bridge,
But most of all
I will teach them LOVE.
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When a ferret dies that has been especially close to someone here, that ferret goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special furkids so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our furkids are warm and comfortable. All the ferrets that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The ferrets are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special furkid finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your furkid, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
The Loan--A poem by Sue Pyron
What's the price? I asked of him, the owner of the store.
Or should, I thought, seek shelters where the have so many more?
The price I paid that sunny day,was nothing I had known.
For money wasn't all of it, he was but just a loan.
I paid with heart, with every time, a snuffle or a sneeze.
The years went by, pieces of heart so many just like these.
Thoughout those years a bigger piece, each time we saw "the man".
"Oh fix him please, oh can you please?" He said, "Oh yes I can."
Then came the day when money not, nor tears could make him well.
Was this the loan I'd heard about, the tolling of the bell?
One single tear, a thousand more, twas time to say goodbye.
To pay my loan, and send him home...I felt that I would die.
With all the pieces of my heart, with tears on my cheek hot.
I paid my loan, I sent him home, alas with money not
"For the Rescue Kids"
Near the clouds of heaven, where good hoomins sometimes go,
Is a special cloud, made for fer'ts, where paws bounce to and fro.
Many know this cloud to be, the top of Rainbow Bridge,
Where well-kept fer'ts wait their time - but also Rescue Kids.
God saw fit for Rescue Kids, to be with ones from homes,
It was never meant for any fer't, to be separated and alone,
They play together, romp and run, and never are in need,
They even nip God's hands, sometimes - but His hands never bleed ;)
Rescue Kids have known the pain, of living lives alone,
Abused, neglected, shuffled 'round; love for them postponed,
But some kind Souls with Hearts of Gold, they see beyond their fears,
And help them with their furry needs, sometimes behind their tears.
But even though these Golden Souls, do all that they can do,
God knows that Rescue Kids need more - they need a life anew
He gives them all hearts just like His, as strong and just as big,
Lush flowered fields to wardance on, and dirt for them to dig.
And when the ones with hoomin homes have left this place of bliss,
To be with ones they've learned to love, to be with ones they miss,
The Rescue Kids are not forgot, nor left again alone,
For God has surely thought of this - for them, He finds a home.
For even Golden Souls get tired, and need to find their rest,
From broken hearts and loving hard, and trying to do their best,
God leads them up the Rainbow Bridge, and opens up the Gate,
And never again, these Rescue Kids, will ever have to wait...

Earth Be Heedful!
All of Earth be heedful,
For a tiny ferret with a big heart is passing through.
Many battles hath this ferret braved.
Numerous trials hath this fuzzy faced.
It's plush fur moves with a breeze not felt.
The light catches; purple highlights on the sable legs,
the color of new snow, the warm chocolate mask of a thief,
the dark shade of glistening silver, all of these and more.
The pink, black, mottled, nose can sniff out lies.
The obsidian, ruby, sapphire, eyes see the truth.
All give way and make a path for this fur clad joy,
A path for a star bound ferret, disappearing into a multicolored mist.
The guardian of our hearts.
A Kit's Sorrowed Tale
Why do you not love me,
was it something I did?
The store man was right,
I am a good kit!
Please tell me, my human,
what did I do wrong ?
You used to hold me everyday,
and sing me pretty songs.
I was so happy when back at the store,
but now I am sad, it's not true anymore.
I played and I slept,I had food everyday,
but now I'm so thirsty, my drink went away.
My bed is so stinky, there is no fresh air,
I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, my humans, don't care!
Oh where are my humans, they said they'd take care,
of my food and my water, and having fresh air.
The hurt in my tummy, I have it no more,
I'm getting so wobbly, can't stand on the floor.
I'm so very tired, can't cry anymore,
I wan't to be back with my friends at the store.
I'd tell them about all the mean humans there,
I called for them often, but they didn't care.
I can't even cry now, can't move anymore,
I'm feeling so strange, What?! Do I see my store?
Hey ! What is that bridge and all that I see?
Is that bridge the rainbow where they'll take care of me?
I'm feeling much better, my tummy feels full.
Still this is my question, are all humans cruel?
Kit... said his new friend, they're not all that way,
some humans, they fight for our rights everyday.
We are so sorry, life wasn't the best,
But here you are safe little one, now, go rest.
So tired, so weary, he waddled away,
he spotted a friend, Hey! come here, come this way!
He climbed up on top of the soft ferret pile,
and went off to sleep, then and there as he smiled.
I'm Still Here
I'm Still Here Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!
